THE High Commission of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in Brunei Darussalam hosted a dinner reception on Monday night in conjunction with the 75th Pakistan Day celebrations, at The Rizqun International Hotel, Gadong.

Present as the guest of honour was Pehin Orang Kaya Hamzah Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdullah bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar, Minister of Communications, accompanied by his spouse.

The reception began with the national anthems of both Brunei Darussalam and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. This was followed by a recitation of the Holy Quran.

The audience then viewed a documentary on Pakistan followed by a welcoming address by the High Commissioner of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Brunei Darussalam, Brigadier (Rtd) Muhammad Zareef Malik.

“Pakistan is proud to have very close and fraternal relations with Brunei Darussalam. The cordiality is manifested through bilateral agreements and multi-sectoral cooperation under the umbrella of bilateral joint commission, and most importantly through the Pakistan Brunei Investment Company,” said the high commissioner.

He highlighted that the moderate but strong Pakistani community is committed to the development of Brunei Darussalam in fields such as defence, business, education and health. Brunei Darussalam is like a second home to all Pakistanis here in this abode of peace.

“The people of Pakistan had a long history of ties with their brethren from Brunei, and they hold His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in high regard. With a long and distinguished history, Brunei Darussalam represents stability and continuity in a region subject to rapid changes.”

“Under the leadership of His Majesty, the country has become an important player in regional polities. The people have sought to preserve their traditional culture and have closely guarded their environment which is among the most bio-diverse on the planet. We look forward to a future wherein there is more collaboration and cooperation between the two countries,” he said.

The reception then continued with a cake-cutting ceremony for the guest of honour, the Pakistan High Commissioner and their spouses. The event concluded with a presentation of gifts by the High Commissioner to the Minister of Communications.
