British High Commissioner Calls on the Foreign Minister
British High Commissioner Adam Thomson called on Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar today and discussed the entire gamut of Pakistan-UK bilateral relations as well as the regional situation. The Foreign Minister underlined that the Pak-UK Enhanced Strategic Dialogue provided us a good framework for a structured and systematic interaction at different levels. Similarly, the National Security Dialogue between our two countries enabled us to deepen our understanding of each other’s positions on the security issues as well as the regional situation.
The Foreign Minister also highlighted the importance of the FODP process for Pakistan adding that the UK’s support for the forum to achieve its objectives was commendable. She appreciated UK’s advocacy of Pakistan’s quest for greater market access in the European Union. The British high Commissioner reiterated his country’s continued full support to Pakistan both in FODP and the European Union.
The High Commissioner briefed the Foreign Minister on the recent riots in the UK and the steps taken by the Government to address the issues involved. The Foreign Minister said that the calm and poise of the Pakistani community in the face of adversity was praiseworthy, particularly the dignified reaction of the parents of the three youth who were killed in Birmingham.
