Call on the Adviser to Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs and by U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Ambassador William J. Burns
The U.S Deputy Secretary of State Ambassador William J. Burns called on the Adviser to Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs Mr. Sartaj Aziz at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 9 May 2014. U.S. Ambassador to Pakistan Mr. Richard Olson also attended the meeting. Pakistan-U.S. bilateral relations and regional issues were discussed during the meeting.
The Adviser emphasized the importance Pakistan attaches to stronger Pakistan-U.S. cooperation and expressed satisfaction on the progress made in this regard since the visit of the Prime Minister to Washington last year. The US Deputy Secretary of State also recalled the Adviser’s visit to Washington in January this year for the Ministerial Review of the Pakistan-US Strategic Dialogue. Both discussed cooperation in Education and Science and Technology areas under the umbrella of Strategic Dialogue.
Regional issues including Afghanistan were also discussed. The Adviser emphasized the importance of peace and stability in Afghanistan and expressed satisfaction at the successful conclusion of the first phase of election in April this year. He further said Pakistan will continue to play a constructive role in this regard. The significance of continued consultations between Pakistan and the U.S. in this regard was reiterated during the meeting.
