Call on the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs by the Executive Secretary, United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP)
The Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), Dr. Shamshad Akhtar, called on the Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs (SAPM), Syed Tariq Fatemi, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today.
The SAPM appreciated the invaluable contribution being made by UNESCAP for promoting the goals of socio-economic integration and sustainable development in the Asia Pacific region, and reiterated Pakistan's continued support for its work.
The Special Assistant underscored the need for mobilizing collective political will and resources to ensure progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SGDs), and highlighted that Pakistan had already initiated action on national goals to promote the Post-2015 Development Agenda. He informed that a robust national mechanism had also been created for the monitoring and implementation of all goals and targets in this regard.
The Executive Secretary acknowledged the positive contribution of Pakistan for promoting the objectives of UNESCAP, and welcomed the initiatives of the Government of Pakistan towards the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
