The Mission organized a Reception in the Ritz Carlton Hotel to celebrate the National Day of Pakistan on 23rd March, 2018. The Vice Governor of Sichuan province, Zhu Hexin, number three in the provincial hierarchy attended the Reception as the Chief Guest. Other prominent dignitaries included Vice Mayor of Chengdu, DG Sichuan Foreign Affairs Office and heads of many provincial departments, CEO’S/Chairmen of leading companies, academic community, journalists, and entrepreneurs. Representatives from Yunnan, Chongqing, and Guizhou province also came all the way to Chengdu to attend the Reception. The Reception, attended by nearly 300 guests, was widely covered by the local print and electronic media.
From the diplomatic corps, Consuls General of US, Germany, Australia, South Korea, Singapore, Poland and Czech Republic attended the Reception.
The Vice Governor in his speech vehemently lauded the role of the Consulate General in strengthening Pakistan-China ties and hoped that, in the years ahead, these relations would further solidify. Consul General of Pakistan Muhammad Mudassir Tipu reflected, in his speech, the historic strength of Pakistan’s relations with Sichuan and China, particularly the evolution of relationship in view of CPEC and Gawadar projects.
More significantly, the Mission also used this opportunity to effectively project recent transformation of Pakistan in various key areas of the national polity and promote Pakistan’s image, tourism potential, cultural heritage as well as people-to-people ties in Western China. The following steps were taken in this connection:
(i) Alongside the Reception, exhibition of photos of scenic beauty of Pakistan was arranged in Ritz Carlton, which captured attention of guests.
(ii) Souvenirs depicting the world famous “Truck Art” of Pakistan were given as gift to all the participants of the Reception.
(iii) Bus Number 115 was launched in Chengdu city, for one month, with scenic photos of Pakistan engraved on it.
(iv) Video clip of short message of the Consul General on Pakistan-Sichuan relations was repeatedly shown on 23rd March on one of the most popular and busiest landmarks in the City centre, known as Tianfu Square.
(v) Chengdu TV relayed interview of the Consul General on bilateral ties, in its prime time, four days ahead of the National Day Reception.
