THE Pakistani community in Brunei marked their nation’s 51st Defence Day with a solemn event.

The event was hosted by Pakistan High Commission to Brunei together with its countrymen at Hall 4 of Indera Samudera Grand Hall, The Empire Hotel & Country Club in Jerudong.

It began with the singing of the national anthems of Brunei and Pakistan followed by the recitation of Quran verses.

This then continued with a viewing of a documentary on the Defence Day of Pakistan and armed forces of Pakistan.

In his welcoming speech, Acting High Commissioner of Pakistan to Brunei Darussalam Ahmed Ali Sirohey said the day of observation is to pay respects to those who have fought valiantly to preserve the sovereignty of the nation in the 1965 India-Pakistan war.

“The date is celebrated to pay tribute to the heroes as well as to commemorate the sacrifices of the brave Pakistan armed forces and the civilians who successfully defended the motherland against the powerful Indian Army in the India-Pakistan war of 1965,” said the acting high commissioner.

The event then continued with a presentation of token of appreciation by the acting high commissioner of Pakistan to the guest of honour, Commander of Royal Brunei Land Forces (RBLF) Brigadier General Pg Dato Seri Pahlawan Aminan Pg Hj Mahmud.the event was attended by all the service chiefs of Brunei and Ambassadors of those countries which supported Pakistan in the times of trial. The event then concluded with a dinner. Also present during the Pakistan Defence Day were the Defence Advisors and Attache’s from the High Commissions, foreign diplomats and senior government officers.
