The Embassy of Pakistan, Rome held the annual Pakistan Food Festival at the embassy lawns on 21st October 2018. This year's event raised money for Diamer Basha and Mohmand Dams.
A number of stalls of Pakistani handicrafts, spices and freshly prepared food were setup in the Embassy lawns. Traditional Pakistani products such as handicrafts, shawls, jewellery, carpets and truck art items were displayed. The embassy lawns were specially decorated for the festive occasion.
The event provided an opportunity to the guests to see/buy Pakistani handicrafts and taste the sumptuous Pakistani cuisine. The audience were entertained to traditional Pakistani music. Three Dhol beaters continuously performed during the day. Their performance was widely appreciated by guests who participated in traditional Pakistani dances and bhangra.
A special children play area was made with a jumping castle, slides and various amusements games. It attracted a large number of children all day. The raffle draw drew large participation.
The event raised an amount of Euro 5,755.00 which was deposited in the designated account (Diamer Basha and Mohmand Dams Fund).
Speaking on the occasion, the community leaders appreciated the efforts of the Embassy. They applauded the Ambassador and all officers of the Embassy for the excellent work they are doing for the Pakistani community in Italy. They also presented a special shield to the Ambassador.
In his speech, the Ambassador stressed the need for the Pakistani community to abide by the local laws, educate their children and integrate into the Italian society. He thanked the community for their support and emphasized that overseas Pakistanis are an important asset for the country and their services to Pakistan are always remembered. He expressed the hope that the community will continue to generously contribute towards the construction of dams in Pakistan.
The event was widely attended by diplomats, journalists, Italian and a large number of community members. It was appreciated by the large audience.
