(2009-01-03) Former Mayor of Rugby, UK, Mr. James Shera called on Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi today. Matters pertaining to interest of Pakistan, relations with the UK, minorities’ affairs and regional situation were discussed. Mr. Shera is a British national of Pakistani origin.
Mr. Shera appreciated the steps taken by the present Government for the welfare and enhancement of representation of minorities in Pakistan, especially the appointment of a Cabinet Minister to represent minorities. This reflected Mohtrama Shaheed Benazir Bhutto’s vision for minorities’ rights.
The Foreign Minister acknowledged Mr. Shera’s contribution to Pakistan’s causes, services in the social sector and valuable relief assistance arranged by him for the October 2005 earthquake victims. Mr. Qureshi also appreciated the contributions of Christian community in Pakistan in the education and social sector.
They discussed ways and means to engage with Pakistani Diaspora in the UK and across Europe to use them as a source for projection of Pakistan and strengthening bilateral relations with countries of their residence.
