The High Commissioner, Mohammad Nafees Zakaria, today, called on the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dato’ Mohamad Ariff Bin Md Yusof.
The High Commissioner congratulated the Honourable Speaker on assumption of Office of Dewan Rakyat (House of Representatives).
While expressing satisfaction on the depth of cordiality and goodwill in bilateral relations between the two brother Muslim countries, they recognised the prospects of further strengthening the existing relations to match the true potential. In this context, they noted the importance of parliamentary exchanges, exploring new avenues and role of Parliamentary Diplomacy in reinforcing the bilateral relations.
The High Commissioner highlighted challenges confronted by the Muslim world. He particularly referred to the blasphemous caricature competition to be held in the premises of Dutch parliament in November 2018. High Commissioner Zakaria mentioned that the Legislative Assemblies of Pakistan adopted resolution to strongly condemn it.
The High Commissioner also highlighted the human rights violations in Indian occupied Kashmir and mentioned the June 2018 report issued by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in this regard.
The Honourable Speaker congratulated on the successful democratic transition in Pakistan and expressed interest in exchanging views with the Government at various levels. Noting Pakistan’s importance in context of Belt and Road initiative, he hoped to visit Pakistan at an opportune time.
