Pakistan High Commission, Brunei Darussalam organized a series of events to mark the Independence Day celebrations of Pakistan in Brunei Darussalam.

Independence Day was celebrated with national zeal and fervour at Pakistan High Commission, Brunei Darussalam. The day began with Flag Hoisting Ceremony at High Commission followed by National Anthem. Acting High Commissioner Mr. Ahmed Ali Sirohey read out the messages of the President and Prime Minister.

Award Ceremony was held to recognize the contribution of Bruneians who helped Pakistan in their respective capacities during the Earthquake of 2005 as well as to enhance trade between the two countries. Awards were also given Pakistani nationals who have been serving in Brunei Darussalam since long time in various fields including Islamic Jurisprudence, Finance and Tax, Business, Education and Health. The award was given to 11 Bruneians and 22 Pakistanis.

3rd event of the day was Variety Show organized in collaboration with the Pakistan Community. The event started with recitation of Quran followed by National Anthem and address by Acting High Commissioner. The children performed tableaus on national songs. Speech contest on the topic of ‘My Dream of Pakistan’ was also held. At the end Pakistan quiz was held. The winners were awarded prizes by the Acting High Commissioner Mr. Ahmed Ali Sirohey.

The day ended with reception which was attended by High Ranking Government Officials, Diplomats, Services Chiefs and Pakistani community. Minister of Communications of Brunei Dato Paduka Hj Mustappa Hj Sirat was guest of honor.

The number of people attended the reception was 300. The acting high commissioner in his speech highlighted the achievements of Pakistan in 69 years. He said that achieving independence is difficult but protecting it is even more difficult. Pakistan and Brunei Darussalam enjoy brotherly relations, which are improving by every passing Day.
