Pakistan Independence Day was celebrated on 14thAugust, 2018 with national fervor in Maldives. The day commenced with the recitation of the Quran followed by hoisting of national flag with national anthem by Ambassador of Pakistan, Vice Admiral (Retd) Waseem Akram. Head of Chancery read out the messages of the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan issued on the occasion of the Pakistan Independence Day. This was followed by an address by the Ambassador of Pakistan. Highlighting the importance the day Ambassador said the Pakistanis are blessed nation that under the dynamic leadership of Quaid-e-Azam, Muslims of Sub-Continent strived for separate homeland. He added that based on two nation’s theory, Pakistan emerged on the map of the world as first ideological Muslim State. He emphasized that it is up to us to make this country a true Muslim Nation, according to aspirations of our founding father. He said Pakistan is facing acute shortage of water. In these circumstances it is imperative that more dams are built in Pakistan. He emphasized that Government of Pakistan has embarked upon project of raising funds for Diamar Basha and Mohmand Dams. For the purpose Bank Account has been opened in Habib Bank Limited, Maldives. He appealed the Pakistani community to contribute generously into the subject account. Later refreshments were served by the Mission for the Pakistani Community. Later in the evening in collaboration with the Embassy, Pakistan-Maldives Friendship Association (PMFA) arranged a film screening event at Olympus Theater, Male’. A Pakistani movie “Ben Roy” was screened at 1900 hours. The event was attended by Ambassador of Pakistan, Embassy personnel along-with family members as well as children. President, Vice President of the Pakistan-Maldives Friendship Association and selective community members of both countries along-with family members as well as children were also present. Dinner was served to the invited guests and their families during the interval. All in all, Pakistani community remained engaged throughout the day and celebrated the occasion with complete commitment.
