Pakistan participates in the Ministerial Meeting of the Global Counter Terrorism Forum

Addressing the fourth Ministerial meeting of the Global Counter Terrorism Form (GCTF) on 27 September 2013 in New York, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs, Mr. Tariq Fatemi, said Pakistan Government is fully committed to counter terrorism in an effective manner. The Government of Pakistan has embarked on the implementation of a multi-pronged and comprehensive strategy of counter terrorism. He stated there is now a broad based political consensus in Pakistan against terrorism.
The plenary meeting of the thirty-member Forum was co-chaired by Secretary John Kerry of the U.S. and Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu of Turkey, and addressed by a number of Foreign Ministers of its member countries. Special Assistant to the Prime Minister said the early achievements of the GCTF matched its promise and potential. He highlighted the importance of international cooperation to match the evolving and changing strategies of terrorist organizations.
Special Assistant to the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of rule of law based mechanisms to counter terrorism on a sustainable basis. He also said that international community’s response to terrorism has to be long term and multipronged involving dialogue among civilizations, economic development, cultural harmony, dispute resolution, and political settlement. He expressed full support of Pakistan for enhancing international cooperation for international community’s efforts to counter terrorism.
