THE High Commission of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in Brunei Darussalam hosted a dinner reception yesterday in conjunction with the 76th Pakistan Day celebrations at The Rizqun International Hotel in Gadong.
Present as guests of honour were Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism Dato Paduka Awang Haji Ali bin Haji Apong and his spouse.
The reception began with the national anthems of both Brunei Darussalam and Islamic Republic of Pakistan, followed by a recitation of the Al-Quran verses.
The audience then viewed a documentary on Pakistan followed by a welcoming address by High Commissioner of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Brunei Darussalam Brigadier (Rtd) Muhammad Zareef Malik.
In his speech, the envoy spoke of the rapid development of Pakistan’s economy as well as the long-time cooperation and friendship between Pakistan and Brunei Darussalam.
“In line with its foreign policy objectives, Pakistan is proud to have a very close and fraternal relationship with Brunei Darussalam.
“The cordiality is manifested through multi-sectoral cooperation under the umbrella of the joint commission and, most importantly, the Pakistan Brunei Investment Company.
“We have long historical ties with our brethren from Brunei and hold His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in high regard. With a long and distinguished history, Brunei Darussalam represents stability and continuity in a region which is subject to rapid changes. The country is an important player in regional politics,” the high commissioner said.
The reception continued with a cake-cutting and concluded with a presentation of gifts by the high commissioner to the minister and his spouse.
