The President of International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), Mr. Xinsheng Zhang, called on the Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs, today. The Chairman Benazir Income Support Programme, Ms. MarviMemon, was also present.
The Adviser commended IUCN’s efforts to promote,globally,solutions to challenges related to conservation of ecosystem and development. He appreciated IUCN’s technical and capacity-building assistance to Pakistan in implementation of various projects and programme related to environment and sustainable development.
The two sides exchanged views on strengthening cooperation particularly in the areas of climate change adaptation, environment and sustainable socioeconomic development. IUCN may assist Pakistan in strengthening national institutional capacity to benefit from the Green Climate Fund including through project development. IUCN may also synergize with Benazir Income Support Programme to launch appropriate educational/awareness campaign in Pakistan to promote the use of sustainable practices, hygiene, and sanitation and conservation of ecosystem, among the masses.
IUCN is a Switzerland-based forum to promote solutions for global issues related to development, environment and conservation of nature. Pakistan is also member of this forum.
