thIndependence Day of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan was celebrated at the High Commission for Pakistan in Dar es Salaam, United Republic of Tanzania. A large number of Pakistani Community members including families, children and their Tanzanian friends attended the event with traditional zeal and patriotism.
Mr. Muhammad Saleem, High Commissioner-designate, read out the Special Messages of the President and the Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan on the occasion.
In his remarks, Mr. Saleem paid tribute to the leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Father of the Nation,for his vision, commitment and success in achieving a free homeland for the Muslims of Sub-continent amid daunting challenges.He also shed light on the huge sacrifices of our forefathers who stood firm behind the Quaid in the freedom struggle.He said that it was a day for thanks giving, reflection and revision.
Mr. Saleem highlighted that while we were rejoicing the freedom in an independent homeland, the innocent people of the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJ&K) were yet to achieve their legitimate right to self-determination. He said that over eight million innocent Kashmiris in IIOJ&K were facing military siege, torture, human rights violations and lockdown since August 05, 2019.
The High Commissioner-designate also thanked the vibrant Pakistani Diaspora in Tanzania for their invaluable contribution to strengthening economic, trade and people to people relations between the two friendly countries.
