Pakistan’s 78th National Day was celebrated in the Sultanate on 23rd March 2018 by Pakistan High Commission by conducting three mega events, which included Flag Hoisting Ceremony at Pakistan High Commission, Inauguration of Islamic Calligraphy, Painting and Art Exhibition at the Malay Technology Museum at Kota Batu and Pakistan Day Reception at The Empire Hotel and Country Club.

The flag hoisting ceremony took place at 8.00 am at Pakistan High Commission. The High Commissioner of Pakistan General Tariq Rashid Khan, Hilal-e-Imtiaz (Military) hoisted the national flag of Pakistan and read the messages of His Excellency the President and the Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. A large number of Pakistanis living in Brunei Darussalam participated in the ceremony.

Later on at 10.00 a.m, an exhibition of Islamic Calligraphy, Painting and Art Exhibition being held collaboration with Kaleidoscope Studio was inaugurated by Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Yang Berhormat Major General (Retd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan Bin Pehin Orang Kaya, and the honourable Datin at Malay Technology Museum. Leading Pakistani artist Mr. Zulfiqar Ali Zulfi holder of Master degree in Fine Arts from National College of Arts a historical 200 years old college and the Director of Alhamra Arts Council in Lahore, Pakistan and Ms. Maseera Rehman (holder of Master degree in Fine Arts and freelance Artist with rich experience in different forms of Painting and Art) from United Kingdom came all the way to show their passion and love for their country ‘Pakistan’ by displaying their Art work in Brunei. Their work includes, Islamic Calligraphy, various Landscape Painting, Painting of Horses and Glass Work etc. Mr. Zulfiqar Ali Zulfi has been bestowed with pride of Performance award by the President of Pakistan on his outstanding Art work.

Both the Artists have the privilege of working with world renowned calligraphers and Artists. The inauguration ceremony of painting and calligraphy was attended by the diplomatic community, prominent Bruneians and Pakistanis living in the Sultanate. Later on the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports took tour of the exhibition. After the formal inauguration, Pakistani refreshments were served, including live cooked Halwa Puri and Channa by the BBQ Tonight Restaurant’s owner Mr. Muhammad Azam. The Calligraphy, Painting and Art Exhibition will continue to remain open for general public until 30th March 2018 from 0900 hours to 1800 hours daily.

In the evening a Dinner reception was held at The Empire Hotel & Country Club to commemorate the 78th Pakistan National Day. A large number of diplomatic community, dignitaries and leading figures of Brunei and Pakistanis attended the program. The High Commissioner of Pakistan in his very impactful speech highlighted Pakistan’s rich history and underscores Pakistan’s achievements during the years and emphasized Pakistan’s core policy of peaceful coexistence; believe in collective prosperity and respecting the sovereignty of all countries. A number of short video clips about Pakistan, covering its development, growth, beautiful landscape, snow clad high mountains, achievements in sports, defence fields and music were also shown to the audience which were greatly liked and appreciated. The High Commissioner also highlighted various facets of strong Brunei-Pakistan fraternal relations rooted in common faith, shared values, mutual respect and cultural affinities. He specially appreciated and mention about vision, leadership and benevolence of His Majesty Kebawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Negara Brunei Darussalam for ensuring peace, security, prosperity, devotion, harmony and happiness in Brunei Darussalam. At the end, dinner was served to the guests where a number of Pakistani dishes were offered to the guests to enjoy.
