The 2nd Round of Bilateral Political Consultations between Pakistan and Algeria was held at Islamabad on 28th April 2016. Mr. Mohammad Waheed-ul-Hasan, Special Secretary for Middle East and Africa, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, led the Pakistan side while Mr. Boumediene Guennad, Head of Asia and Oceania Bureau of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, headed the Algerian delegation.
The two sides reviewed the entire gamut of Pakistan-Algerian bilateral relations. Noting the traditional warmth and cordiality of brotherly ties, they expressed satisfaction at the continued growth of mutually beneficial cooperation in diverse fields, including trade and commerce. Both sides reiterated their commitment to further intensify cooperation in the fields of culture, tourism, defence, education and science & technology. To further intensify commercial ties, the sides stressed the need for greater interaction between the private sectors of the two countries, business-to-business contacts and increased participation in each others trade fairs. It was also decided that efforts will be made to convene the next round of Joint Ministerial Commission at Islamabad in autumn this year.
Delegations also discussed regional issues and matters pertaining to cooperation at multilateral fora and expressed satisfaction on the existing close cooperation at regional and international organizations. The Algerian side was briefed on Pakistan’s policy of promoting peaceful neighbourhood and monumental efforts made in counter-terrorism. The Algerian delegation gave an overview of the regional issues in North Africa.
