73rd Independence Day of Pakistan along with Kashmir Solidarity Day was commemorated with zeal and fervor in Pretoria in a simple and dignified manner by Pakistan High Commission. The Independence Day celebration commenced with flag hoisting ceremony in the High Commission. In the event messages of President and Prime Minister of Pakistan were read out to the audience.

The chief guest on the occasion Malik Muhammad Ehsan Ullah Tiwana, Member, National Assembly and Chairman, Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Pakistan underlined the need for forging unity in the face of domestic and external challenges. He also highlighted the Indian high-handedness in the Indian Held Kashmir which revoked the special status of occupied territory.

Head of Mission in his address on the occasion touched upon the historic significance of 14 August and recounted the sacrifices and struggle which led to the creation of Pakistan. He urged the Pakistan community living and working in South Africa to work for the progress of their country and present favourable and positive image of Pakistan in South Africa and elsewhere. While referring to the state of affairs in Indian Occupied Kashmir he expressed unwavering support of Pakistan to the Kashmir cause and all-out support for their struggle against the brutal Indian occupation.

A large number of community members attended the event. In the end prayer was offered for the progress and prosperity of Pakistan and freedom of Kashmiris from the Indian occupation.
