The 73rd Independence Day of Pakistan was celebrated in the UAE today with national zeal and fervour. A Flag Hoisting Ceremony was held at the premises of the Consulate General of Pakistan in Dubai. A large number of UAE-based Pakistanis including women and children attended the ceremony.

H.E Ahmed Amjad Ali, Consul General, hoisted the National Flag while the National Anthem was played. The messages of President and Prime Minister of Pakistan were read out to the audience.

Speaking on the occasion, Consul General extended his warmest felicitations to the Pakistani community residing in the Emirates. He reiterated the significance of the day by paying homage to Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah for a separate homeland for the Muslims of the subcontinent. He commended the Pakistani community for playing a vital role in the progress and development of the UAE and Pakistan.

Consul General recalled the excellent fraternal relations between Pakistan and the UAE and stated that the relations have remained on an upward surge in all fields in recent years and the focus remained on the promotion of Pakistan-UAE bilateral relations through trade, culture, high level visits and people to people contacts. He hoped that Pakistan’s relations with the UAE will continue to grow from strength to strength under the visionary leadership of both countries.

Government of Pakistan this year decided to observe Independence Day of Pakistan as Kashmir Solidarity Day as well. The Consul General emphasized that the Indian Occupied Jammu & Kashmir is an internationally recognized disputed territory and no unilateral step by the Government of India can change this disputed status, as enshrined in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions. He reiterated that Pakistan is committed to Kashmir cause and will continue to provide its political, diplomatic and moral support to the people of Occupied Jammu and Kashmir for realization of their inalienable right to self-determination. Lastly he called upon the international community including the United Nations and other relevant bodies to hold India to account for the deliberate crimes against humanity and freedom of expression in Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

The Children from Pakistani schools sang national songs with enthusiasm. The ceremony concluded with prayers for progress, prosperity and solidarity of the country.
