Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Mr. Sartaj Aziz met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia Mr. Edgars Rinkevics today at the Foreign Office. Mr. Rinkevics is on an official visit to Pakistan to attend Heart of Asia-Istanbul Process Ministerial Meeting being held in Islamabad from 08-09 December, 2015.
The Adviser thanked the Latvian Foreign Minister for participation in the Heart of Asia Meetings and apprised him of Pakistan’s contribution in the Afghan-led and Afghan-owned reconciliation process. He also briefed the guest about the successes achieved during the military operation Zarb-e-Azb.
The Adviser said that Pakistan and Latvia enjoy close and cordial relations and emphasized on further strengthening the bilateral relations in all spheres especially the trade and economy. Other issues of regional and international importance were also discussed during the meeting.
The Latvian Minister thanked for the hospitality extended to him and his delegation. He said that bilateral ties between Pakistan and Latvia are expanding and stressed upon the need to providing further legal framework to promote cooperation between the two countries in diverse areas. He also appreciated Pakistan’s successes in the fight against terrorism as well as its positive role in the Afghan reconciliation process.
