The Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs, Mr. Sartaj Aziz, today, met the Foreign Minister of Kyrgyzstan, Mr. Abdyldaev Erlan Bekeshovich, on sidelines of the 70th Session of United Nations General Assembly.

The two leaders recognized the enormous potential to expand trade and economic ties between Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan. In this context, they discussed ways and means to expedite regional connectivity, activating Quadrilateral Agreement for Traffic-in-Transit and trans-boundary energy and infrastructure projects. Possibilities of expanding air links and easing visa restrictions between the two countries also came under discussion.

The two leaders also discussed regional situation in the context of Afghanistan and counter-terrorism. Mr. Sartaj Aziz briefed his Kyrgyz counterpart on preparations for the Heart of Asia/Istanbul process Ministerial meeting, to be held in Islamabad later this year. Mr. Bekeshovich assured active participation of Kyrgyzstan in the meeting.
