The signing ceremony of the Agreement on Visa Exemption for Holders of Diplomatic and Official Passports concluded between the Government of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the Government of Lao PDR took place in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lao PDR at Vientiane on 25 July 2016.
H.E. Mr. Zaigham Uddin Azam, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Vietnam accredited to Lao PDR and H.E. Sengphet Houngbounguang, Vice Minister of the Foreign Affairs of Lao PDR signed the agreement on behalf of their respective governments. Both the countries concluded this agreement after long negotiations.
Following the signing ceremony, Ambassador remarked that the Agreement allows for an expanded, broader, and more robust relationship between Pakistan and Lao PDR. He further commented that "the Agreement signing is the fulfillment of one of the goals, I set forth when I first arrived as Ambassador to Lao PDR two years ago." He also hailed it as a milestone in the bilateral relationship and re-iterated for enhancement of relations in all sectors specially trade.
The Agreement will enter into force 30 days from today i.e. signing of agreement, and this would allow holders of Diplomatic and Official Passport from both countries to be exempted from visa requirements for a stay of maximum 90 days.
