The Ambassador Ali Javed presented his Letter of Credence to H.E. Qu Dongyu Director General Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) at FAO, Secretariat, and Rome.
Following the ceremony, the Ambassador assisted by Mr. Khalid Mehboob, Alternate Permanent Representative to FAO,DHM Farhan AliFirst Secretary andMr. Khalid Hanif Commercial Counsellor held bilateral delegation talks with DG (FAO) and his team in which the existing cooperation between Pakistan and FAO was discussed. He thanked DG FAO for his participation and support for “Resilient Pakistan” conference co-hosted by Prime Minister of Pakistan &UNSC in Geneva last month.
The Ambassador briefed the Director General (FAO) on the situation of human and food security in Pakistan in the wake of a devastating floods and the subsequent rehabilitation and rescue efforts undertaken by the Government of Pakistan in coordination with the international community.
The Director General observed that Pakistan was holding largest portfolio of FAO and hence the relationship was most substantive. The DG particularly highlighted that this year FAO’s financial and material commitment to Pakistan is one the largest in history.
The Director General proposed signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Pakistan to further institutionalize and consolidate the existing cooperation between FAO and Pakistan.
The Ambassador invited DG FAO to undertake bilateral visit to Pakistan and expressed best wishes for his re-election for 2nd term in office.
