ASEAN Day Flag Raising ceremony held at Indonesian Embassy, Islamabad

To mark the ASEAN Day on 8 August 2011, an ASEAN Flag Raising ceremony was held at the Indonesian Embassy in Islamabad. Ambassadors and High Commissioners of ASEAN member countries, in Islamabad, as well as senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were present at the occasion.

Additional Secretary (Asia Pacific) read out the statement on behalf of the Foreign Minister Khar. While congratulating ASEAN countries on ASEAN Day, the Foreign Minister recounted many steps taken by Pakistan to enhance its engagement with ASEAN. The Minister expressed the confidence that Pakistan would soon get Full Dialogue Partner status with ASEAN and hoped for an early conclusion of an ASEAN-Pakistan FTA.

The current Chairman of ASEAN-Islamabad-Committee and the Ambassador of Vietnam in Islamabad, expressed confidence that Pakistan would be admitted as Full Dialogue Partner of ASEAN in the near future.
