British High Commissioner Calls on Foreign Minister

(2012-01-17) The British High Commissioner in Islamabad, Mr. Adam Thomson, called on Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar and discussed matters related to enhancing Pakistan-UK relations.

Expressing satisfaction at the second round of Pakistan-UK National Security Discussions held in Islamabad on 22 November 2011, the Foreign Minister underlined that the Enhanced Strategic Dialogue between the two countries, which was launched during Prime Minister David Cameroon’s visit to Pakistan in April last year, was a landmark development which had opened new vistas for bilateral cooperation. She particularly emphasized the importance of expanding economic and commercial relations, saying that Pakistan offered enormous trade and investment opportunities.

The High Commissioner conveyed an official invitation on behalf of Foreign Secretary William Hague to the Foreign Minister to visit London next month to review progress achieved within the framework of the Enhanced Strategic Dialogue.

They also discussed bilateral cooperation at international fora, especially the UN Security Council. They agreed that Pakistan and the UK should coordinate closely to promote the agenda of peace and development. The Foreign Minister reiterated that Pakistan had always pursued a foreign policy on the basis of principles as enshrined in the United Nations Charter. She said Pakistan was looking forward to contributing constructively to United Nations Security Council work during its two-year term.
