Mr. Sartaj Aziz, Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs received a seven-member delegation of the British Parliament at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday.
The Adviser stated that Pakistan enjoys friendly and warm relations with the United Kingdom which have been further strengthened during the last two years. These ties exist in a wide range of cooperation including economic, culture and education. The presence of a large number of Pakistani diaspora in the United Kingdom acts as a bridge between the two countries. He congratulated the Parliamentarians on their elections to the Parliament.
The Adviser provided a comprehensive overview of the domestic political situation of Pakistan. He stressed that the democratic process was becoming stronger. He also emphasized that Pakistan was an investor’s friendly country and has a vibrant media. He highlighted Pakistan’s efforts to fight terrorism and extremism and reiterated the Government’s commitment to take forward the process of constructive engagement with Afghanistan. He highlighted the vision of the Prime Minister for promotion of regional peace and stability.
The visiting Parliamentarians appreciated Pakistan’s role in fighting the menace of terrorism. They stressed the importance of enhancing bilateral trade and cooperation in various fields, especially education.
There was a frank exchange of views on regional and global issues. The meeting was held in a friendly and cordial atmosphere.
