The Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation on Afghanistan, Mr. Zamir Kabulov, called on the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs (SAPM), Syed Traiq Fatemi, today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Mr. Kabulov is currently visiting Pakistan to attend the Heart of Asia-Istanbul Process Ministerial Meeting, which is being held on 08-09 December 2015 in Islamabad.
The SAPM thanked the Special Representative for Russia’s close engagement and constructive role in the Heart of Asia-Istanbul Process. He highlighted Prime Minister’s policy of peaceful neighborhood and non-interference in the region, and reiterated Pakistan’s desire to build a constructive and trust-based relationship with all its neighbours, including Afghanistan. He reiterated that peace in Afghanistan was vital for the peace and stability of the entire region, and highlighted Pakistan’s contribution towards facilitating an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned reconciliation process.
The Special Assistant expressed satisfaction at the rapidly growing ties with Russia in diverse areas, and emphasized the need for realizing the full potential of the bilateral relationship in the economic sphere.
Mr. Kabulov reiterated Russia’s desire to develop multifaceted relationship with Pakistan. He lauded Pakistan’s efforts for holding the Heart of Asia Meeting-Istanbul Process Ministerial Meeting and appreciated Pakistan’s positive role in the Afghan reconciliation process.
Other issues of regional and international importance were also discussed during the meeting.
