The British Prime Minister’s Special Representative on Afghanistan and Pakistan, Mr. Owen Jenkins called on the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs (SAPM), Syed Tariq Fatemi, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today.
While appreciating that Pakistan-UK relations were on an upward trajectory, the Special Assistant emphasized the need for further enhancement of these ties in diverse fields, including trade, commerce, education, security and defense. Briefing the visiting dignitary on the successes being achieved as a result of the ongoing military operation Zarb-e-Azb, the SAPM reiterated the Government’s resolve to root out terrorism and extremism from the entire country.
The Special Assistant also referred to Pakistan’s desire to build a constructive and trust-based relationship with Afghanistan and emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to the peace process, which was essential for stability in Afghanistan and the region.
Special Representative Jenkins appreciated Pakistan’s role in the fight against terrorism, as well as its policies for a peaceful neighbourhood. He expressed satisfaction at the overall bilateral relationship between the two countries.
Other issues of bilateral and regional importance were also discussed during the meeting, which was held in a warm and cordial atmosphere.
