Independence Day of Pakistan was commemorated in a simple and dignified manner by Pakistan High Commission on 14th August 2020. The Independence Day celebration commenced with flag hoisting ceremony in the High Commission at 0930 hours. The messages of President and Prime Minister of Pakistan were read out to the audience by the Deputy Head of Mission.

Following the host Government’s rules – to restrict the large public gathering to curb Covid-19 pandemic – a limited number of Pakistan community members were invited on the occasion. The High Commissioner conferred certificate of appreciation to prominent individuals in recognition of their selfless services for Pakistani community – during the pandemic – as well as for Kashmir cause.

The High Commissioner in his address on the occasion reiterated Government of Pakistan’s resolve to stand with our Kashmiri brethren in IIOJK till the  dispute is settled as per their aspiration and in accordance with UN resolutions. He also touched upon the historic significance of 14th  August and recounted the sacrifices and struggle which led to the creation of Pakistan. He urged on Pakistan community to remain united and work hard in these difficult times arising out of an unprecedented global pandemic.
