Celebration of 76th Independence Day

Embassy of Pakistan Rome organized a ceremony to celebrate 76^th Independence Day of Pakistan. After the flag hoisting messages of the President and the Prime Minister of Pakistan were read out to the audience.

While condemning the atrocities committed by Indian forces on the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJ&K) by Indian forces, rich tributes were paid to the unparalleled sacrifices of Kashmiris and Pakistan’s moral, political, support to their Kashmiri brethren was reiterated. The Ambassador thanked Pakistani community in Italy for holding rallies on the occasion of Youm-e-Istehsal-e- Kashmir against Indian aggression on IIOJ&K.

Ambassador of Pakistan, H.E Ali Javed enumerated the reasons behind the genesis of Pakistan and appreciated the eternal sacrifices of our ancestors during the Independence Movement. He highlighted that Italy has the largest number of Pakistanis in the entire EU which is over 300,000including 3,000 talented students. The Ambassador appreciated that there was no decrease in the total volume of remittances from Italy in 2023. Like previous year, this year too, Pakistani community in Italy has sent a significant amount of US$ 850 million to Pakistan and thus retained its number one position in the European Union.

He further added that the role of overseas Pakistanis is very prominent in the development of our beloved country. He said that after the withdrawal of Britain from the European Union, the largest number of overseas Pakistanis is living in Italy.

The Ambassador appreciated that attending today’s event by more than 150 community members including women, children and students is a reflection of the strong relations and solidarity with Pakistan. Travelling for 4 to 6 hours to Rome to attend the event is a manifestation of the excellent relation between the Community and the Embassy. The Ambassador also introduced the newly arrived officer, Mr. Muhsin Hasan, Third Secretary, to the audience.

He also informed about the steps taken by Pakistan Embassy in Rome and Milan Consulate to facilitate the community. In this regard, he urged Pakistanis living in Italy to join the WhatsApp Broadcast of the Embassy (+39-3898716588) to get timely information.More than 7000 Pakistani community members have joined the Mission’s WhatsApp broadcast since its introduction in January 2023.

On this occasion, Ambassador awarded certificates of appreciation to winner of logo design competition for the 75^thanniversary of Pakistan-Italy diplomatic relations. These included Ms. LaibaMaqboolMian, Ms. Sehrish and Mr. Khurram Siddiqui. Besides, Mr. Arshad Mahmood Qadr, the successful candidate in the Councilor election from Brescia, Italy, was also awarded certificate of appreciation and urged Pakistani community to actively participate in the Italian Politics.

At the end of the event, the Ambassador alongwith the Officers and officials of the Mission had informal interaction with the guests and were served with traditional Pakistani breakfast.
