D-8 Secretary-General Seyed Ali Mohammad Mousavi called on Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs on 06 March 2015. At the meeting the Secretary-General appreciated Pakistan’s active role as D-8 Chair. The Adviser to the Prime Minister stressed to make the D-8 more productive and beneficial for the member state, especially by implementing its Agreements including Preferential Trade Agreement. The Adviser to the Prime Minister assured the Secretary General of Pakistan’s full support in achieving the objectives of the Organization.
The D-8 Secretary General, who is visiting to attend the 6th Islamic Countries Think Tank Forum in Islamabad, also called on the Foreign Secretary. The way forward for the organization in light of the recommendations made by the D-8 Eminent Persons Group was discussed. The Secretary General thanked the Foreign Secretary for Pakistan’s leadership in obtaining ‘Observer Status’ for the Organization at the United Nations and the positive contribution it was making in promoting the D-8 Agenda.
Pakistan assumed the Chair of D-8 in November 2012 for the period 2012-2014. Pakistan will remain the Organization’s Chair for 2015-2016. 36th Session of the D-8 Commission will be held in Islamabad on 4-5 June, 2015.
