Fifth Round of Bilateral Political Consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and Sultanate of Oman

The Fifth Round of Bilateral Political Consultations between Pakistan and Oman was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Islamabad, today. Foreign Secretary, Mr. Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry, led the Pakistan delegation. Oman’s delegation was led by H.E. Mr. Ahmed bin Yousuf bin Obaid Al Harthy, Under Secretary of Foreign Affairs for Diplomatic Affairs.

Mr. Al Harthy called on Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs, Mr. Sartaj Aziz. Both sides expressed satisfaction at the trajectory of bilateral relations. The Adviser deeply appreciated cooperation of Oman in the context of Pakistan’s claim for extension of its continental shelf. On behalf of the Government of Pakistan, the Adviser thanked the Government of Oman for facilitating evacuation of 12 Pakistanis, who had come from Yemen through land border.The Adviser emphasized the need for high-level contacts in order to give further impetus to bilateral relations.

Foreign Secretary handed over to the Under Secretary a copy of the letter from the President of Pakistan to HM Sultan Qaboos Bin Said Al-Said, congratulating him on his return to Oman after his medical treatment and recuperation.

During the talks, both sides reviewed the entire range of Pakistan-Oman bilateral relations. They agreed to further strengthen cooperation, particularly in the fields of economy, trade, manpower, defence and security and counter-terrorism. Underscoring the excellent cooperation that exists between Pakistan and Oman, they reiterated their commitment to further intensifying cooperation in multilateral forums. The need for greater interaction between the private sectors of the two countries was also emphasized.

During the meetings, views were also exchanged on regional and international issues of mutual interest and concern, including situation in Yemen and its implications for regional peace and stability.

Talks were held in a cordial and brotherly atmosphere, which is the hallmark of Pakistan-Oman relations.

Foreign Secretary also hosted a luncheon in honour of the Under Secretary and his accompanying delegation.

Under Secretary H.E. Mr. Ahmed bin Yousuf bin Obaid Al Harthy conveyed his profound gratitude for the warm welcome and hospitality extended to him and members of his delegation during their stay in Pakistan.
