The Embassy of Pakistan in Lisbon organized “First Pakistani Mango Festival” in Lisbon from 19th-20th July, 2018 in collaboration with the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP).

The festival was organized at three different famous leading Portuguese mega Stores. The first exhibition was kick-started at the headquarter of “Continent Store” which has 3.5 million registered customers and has more than 550 branches in Portugal.

The second show was organized in the “Pingo Doce” headquarter in Azamboja. Pingo Doce is the second largest supermarket operators in Portugal with 400 stores. Daily 7000 customers visit Pingo Doce stores.

The final event was held at “Jumbo Store” at the well-known Allegro Mall. Jumbo is a Portuguese hypermarket brand owned by the French group Auchan and has 126 hypermarkets in Portugal.

The events were well attended by the general public, the top management of the Stores, importers of Mangoes and large number of major wholesale fruit sellers. The Mangoes were offered to the participants and they appreciated the taste, quality, aroma and colour of the Pakistani mangoes.

Mr. Fayaz Ahmad Khan, Charge d’Affaires, enlightened the participants that Pakistan is the fifth largest producer of Mango and has huge potential for export. A detailed power point presentation was also given about the verities/types of Pakistani mangoes, production seasons, hot water treatment plant, European Standard of export, and the role of the Mission as a facilitator of visa and establishing links between the Portuguese importers and Pakistani companies.

The participants enjoyed the delicious Pakistani mangoes and the importers/ management of Stores expressed keen interest in exploring the possibilities of importing Pakistani mangoes for the Portuguese fruit markets.
