Foreign Minister, Makhdoom Shah MahmoodQureshi, addressed the United Nations Security Council’s Ministerial debate in New York today. The debate, organized by the Russian Federation, was held on the topic “The UN Cooperation with Regional and Sub-regional Organizations in Sustaining Peace and Security: Contribution of the CSTO, the CIS and the SCO in coping with Terrorist Threats.”

Speaking on the occasion, the Foreign Minister said that Pakistan condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, including against people under illegal occupation. He added that Pakistan had successfully turned the tide against terrorism and would continue to take steps to root out the menace, in coordination with its regional and international partners.

He added that South Asia faced numerous challenges in particular poverty, illiteracy, disease, and underdevelopment, which were being exacerbated by political differences and unresolved disputes.

The Foreign Minister called for innovative means as well as use of modern technologies for countering the threat posed by terrorism, and encouraged greater cooperation between the regional organizations and the United Nations in this regard.
