Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi had a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on the sidelines of the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers meeting in Bishkek today.
The two Foreign Ministers reviewed and expressed satisfaction over the steady development of bilateral relations, marked by growing warmth and increasing level of engagement in all spheres. They agreed that the upcoming Deputy Foreign Ministers level talks will provide further impetus to the already healthy momentum in bilateral ties.
Foreign Minister Qureshi appreciated Russia’s support to Pakistan’s smooth integration into SCO. Foreign Minister Lavrov termed Pakistan’s SCO membership as a very positive step.
The Foreign Ministers also discussed important issues impacting regional and global security. They agreed that a successful reconciliation process in Afghanistan was of great importance to the overall global and regional peace, security and stability.
Foreign Minister Qureshi and Foreign Minister Lavrov signed a Joint Statement on No First Placement of Weapons in Outer Space.
