The First Pakistan-China Foreign Ministry Spokespersons’ Dialogue was held in Beijing on August 30, 2013. Mr. Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry, Spokesperson and Additional Secretary (UN&EC), led the Pakistan delegation, which also included Mr. Imtiaz Ahmad, Director General (China). The Chinese side was led by Mr. Qin Gang, Director General Information Department and Spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry. He was assisted by Mr. Hong Lei, Spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry and Deputy Director General Information Department.
The objective of the Dialogue was to discuss ways of harmonizing public diplomacy messages of the two Foreign Ministries at a time when the leadership and governments of Pakistan and China have embarked on tangible economic cooperation for the common benefit of the peoples of Pakistan and China and the region.
It was agreed that the Spokespersons of the two Foreign Ministries would maintain close contact and encourage regular exchange of media delegations between the two countries. It was further agreed that the two Spokespersons would coordinate public diplomacy messaging on key foreign policy issues of mutual interest and would also liaise on the sidelines of important international events.
The offices of the two Spokespersons would establish a real-time and quick-response interface between their Foreign Ministries. The media organizations of the two countries would be encouraged to establish offices in each others’ countries.
