High Commissioner of Pakistan, H.E. Amir Muhammad Khan, called on Prof. NSHUTI Manasseh, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Republic of Rwanda, on 8th July 2021. The Minister of State welcomed H.E. Amir, as the first resident High Commissioner of Pakistan in Rwanda. He stated that the Government of Rwanda deeply appreciated the Government of Pakistan’s ”friendly step to open its resident Mission in Kigali.” He added that the Government of Rwanda enjoyed friendly relation with Pakistan and that his country was willing to further strengthen its relations with Pakistan, especially in the fields of trade and investment. There is a great potential regarding bilateral trade in Rwandan tea, coffee, minerals etc. and Pakistani rice, textile products, pharmaceutical products, surgical instruments, sports goods etc.
The Rwandan Government was ready to sign agreements with Pakistan on Cooperation in various fields, especially in the fields of Trade and Investment. Rwanda acknowledged Pakistan’s assistance in training their diplomats. Rwanda would welcome investment from Pakistan and joint ventures, mainly in mining (gold and diamond), construction, education, health and agriculture sectors.
The High Commissioner, in response stated that Pakistan attached great importance to its relations with Rwanda. The Government of Pakistan, under its “Engage Africa Policy,“ aimed at further strengthening its relations with Africa, especially, relations in the fields of trade and investment. The High Commissioner said that Rwanda may consider opening its Mission in Islamabad in the near future, which would help a lot in further strengthening the existing bilateral relations, especially relations in the field of trade and investment. The Government of Pakistan was also willing and ready to initiate and subsequently sign bilateral agreements on cooperation in various fields. The Government of Pakistan can provide assistance in capacity building of Rwanda‘s Diplomats, armed forces, banking, postal services etc. The High Commissioner stressed the need for exchange of bilateral visits at leadership and ministerial levels, especially exchange of visits of trade and investment delegations.
