The Head of Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Mr. Paul Castella, called on Foreign Minister, Ms. Hina Rabbani Khar, today to present his letter of appointment.
The Foreign Minister welcomed Mr. Castella and assured him of the Government’s support and cooperation in fulfilling his responsibilities. Acknowledging the significant humanitarian work carried out by the ICRC in Pakistan in coping with natural calamities, including the earthquake of 2005 and floods of 2010 and 2011, the Foreign Minister stressed on the need for the ICRC to continue its humanitarian operations in Pakistan.
The Foreign Minister emphasized on maintaining continuous dialogue for further enhance cooperation between the Government and the ICRC and expressed hope that the ICRC would continue to provide humanitarian relief assistance to the affected people in Pakistan.
Mr. Paul Castella thanked the Foreign Minister for receiving him and assured the latter that the ICRC would follow the agreed rules and procedure in discharging of their functions in Pakistan.
