High commission opened Pakistan corner at UNISSA

THE Pakistan High Commission initially presented 113 books to Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) for Pakistan corner in a bid to strengthen relations with Brunei.

Welcoming the latest addition to the library’s collection, UNISSA Rector Dr Hj Norarfan Hj Zainal said the books will be “undoubtedly useful” for students, serving as a medium to enrich and expand their knowledge of the Islamic republic.

The books covered a wide range of topics in the fields of Islamic studies, international relations, political economy, history of Pakistan and its place in the contemporary world.

“This is part of (the) continuous efforts in strengthening the ties between Brunei Darussalam and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. It is hoped that there will be more endeavours in further bolstering relations between the two countries in the future,” said Dr Hj Norarfan.

He pledged to ensure the books will be utilised by the university and conveyed his appreciation to the Pakistan High Commission for the literary donation.

Acting Pakistani High Commissioner to Brunei Ahmed Ali Sirohey said the books were handed over to UNISSA in a move to support the “reawakening of the Islamic world” and to highlight the importance of pursuing knowledge.

He added the mission will contribute more books in the future despite logistical challenges due to the lack of direct air links between Brunei and Pakistan.

“I thought it would be appropriate to begin with a small contribution and once a Pakistan corner is established in UNISSA, we will keep strengthening (our cooperation) InsyaAllah. This is the tradition of Islam,” said Ahmed.
