High Commissioner, Mohammad Nafees Zakaria, today called on the Malaysian Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, Dato’ Saifuddin Nasution.

They reviewed the state of relations and discussed ways and means to further deepen bilateral cooperation to the mutual benefit of the two countries. Both sides recognized that there was immense potential in the economic sector and that the two countries could learn from each other’s expertise in the regulation of domestic trade and consumers’ protection. SMEs was seen as one of the prospective areas for bilateral cooperation.

The High Commissioner highlighted the prospects of investment in Pakistan with reference to the demands of the Malaysian consumer market. He also mentioned Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in this regard. He briefly mentioned progress achieved on CPEC projects.

The High Commissioner expressed desire to work closely to exploit the potential of each other’s markets and the adjoining regional markets. By virtue of the geographic location in their respective regions, Pakistan is a gateway to the Central Asian markets, while Malaysia is an integral part of the ASEAN.
