Today, H.E. Amir Muhammad Khan, High Commissioner of Pakistan to Rwanda presented copies of Credentials to H. E. Dr. Vincent BIRUTA, Minister of Foreign Affairs and international Cooperation, Republic of Rwanda. After welcoming the High Commissioner, the Foreign Minister expressed gratitude and happiness at the Government of Pakistan’s policy decision to open its Resident High Commission in Kigali. He said that Pakistan & Rwanda enjoyed friendly relations and that the existing bilateral relations will get fresh impetus with the opening of Pakistan High Commission in Kigali. He assured the High Commissioner of full Cooperation and Support from the Government of Rwanda for further strengthening the existing bond of friendly relations.
The High Commissioner thanked the Foreign Minister and his Ministry for according him excellent Reception on his arrival. He conveyed the Best Wishes of the President, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan for good health and prosperity of the President, Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and the people of Rwanda.
Mr. Amir stated that he was the first Resident High Commissioner of Pakistan to Rwanda and that he wished the Rwandan Government considered opening its Diplomatic Mission in Islamabad. Discussions mainly focused on ways and means to further strengthen the existing bilateral relations in various fields, especially commerce and trade relations. The also held discussions on the forthcoming CHOGM, scheduled to be held in Kigali by the 2’d half of June 2021 and other issues of bilateral interests.
The high Commissioner briefed the Foreign Minister on the Government of Pakistan “Engage Africa Policy” in detail. The government of Pakistan, under the “Engage Africa policy” had decided to open five new Missions in Africa, including Pakistan High Commission in Rwanda, Kigali. Pakistan-Rwanda trade figures for the year 2018-19 stand at US$ 36 million, which is far below the existing potential. There are around 120 Pakistanis working in Rwanda in various sectors.
