The High Commissioner of Pakistan in South Africa, Mr. Sohail Khan presented his credentials to His Majesty King Letsie III of Lesotho in Maseru on 8 March 2018. Beside accreditation to South Africa, the High Commissioner is concurrently accredited to Botswana, Mozambique, Namibia, Lesotho and Swaziland.
The High Commissioner conveyed the messages of goodwill from President of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi to His Majesty King Letsie III which were warmly reciprocated. The King and the High Commissioner discussed bilateral economic and trade relations and decided to explore additional avenues of cooperation for the welfare of both countries. The King appreciated the services of individual Pakistani citizens for his Kingdom particularly in the field of medicine.
The High Commissioner’s visit to Maseru also entailed his detailed meetings with Honourable Prime Minister Dr. Motsoahae Thabane, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations Hon. Lesego Maakgothi, Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Nkopane Monyane and Chief of State Protocol Ambassador Masuhla Leteka. During these meetings, the High Commissioner, touched upon Pakistan’s vital role in achieving durable peace in the region; Pakistan’s Prime Minister’s vision of “peace for development” and Pakistan’s core national objective of advancing economic development. Further prospects of economic and trade relations were also discussed with a view to strengthen Pakistan-Lesotho relations in different fields.
During his interaction with authorities of Lesotho, the High Commissioner also highlighted the constructive role being played by a small Pakistani community based in Lesotho, for the economic and social wellbeing of Lesotho. In addition, he also interacted with the community and facilitated measures to address their individual problems.
