An Event titled “Humanity & Human Rights” was hosted at the Mission on Monday, 6th February 2023 to mark “Kashmir Solidarity Day”.The Event was attended by 100 guests including prominent Italian civil society representatives including Parliamentarians, and Pakistani diaspora residing in Rome as well as neighbouring regions of Bologna, Prato, Macerataand Naples.
The proceedings started with Special Appearance by Ms. Mishal Yasin Malik, Chairperson Peace & Culture Organization who highlighted the plight of the people of Kashmir in IIOJ&K. Her message set the tone for hour-long proceedingsthat followed, in a Seminar setting with all 4 Italian experts taking the stage.
The Panelist included Mr. Fabio Massimo Castaldo, MEP and Former VP of European Parliament Ms. Federica Onori, Member Lower House,
Professor Carlo Alberto Pinelli (Sitara-e-Imtiaz), Ms. Valeria Martano, Peace Activist and International Advocate of Inter-Faith Dialogue of San’t Edigio Enrico Singer a renowned Journalist and Director of NOVA Agency, and Federico Arata, an International Explorer and Friend of Pakistan.
The Panelists highlighted the need to generate awareness on the Kashmir issue in Europe so that public opinion could be marshalled for the implementation of UN Security Council resolutions on Kashmir. It was underlined that peace in the region is only possible through the resolution of the Kashmir dispute which remains a flash point between the two nuclear powers.
The message of the Prime Minister of Pakistan on Kashmir Solidarity Day was read out on the occasion. The Ambassador expressed gratitude to all the participants of the Conference. The Ambassador also announced that Seminar had practically launched “Pak-Italy Friendship Forum” which aims at promoting
people-to-people contacts between both civil societies.
The Ambassador announced that launch of “Pak-Italy Student Forum” and “Business Council” were next on the agenda of the implementation of the Mission. He thanked Italian Media and Representative of AP as well as local representatives of various mainstream Pakistan private media and local channels.
The Event was follow with an hour long Press Conference by the Ambassador. On the occasion, he announced variety of initiatives to promote bilateral ties as well as projection of the Pakistan and Italian youths engaged in various activities including Education, Research, Archaeology, Mountaineering, Trekking, Environment, Fashion, and Art & Music.
The Ambassador highlighted the establishment of “Pak Embassy WhatsApp Broadcast” since last month service which also interacts with members of community(WhatsApp No. +39 389 871 6588).
He also announced that appointment of Counsellor Khalid Hanif as Embassy’s Spokesperson & Media Coordinator along with a revamped and renewed Internship Programme.
The Event was streamed live via Facebook and received coverage in mainstream Italian Media in Italian language. There are 300,000 Pakistanis in Italy ranking first across EU.
