The Italian Foreign Minister’s Special Envoy on Afghanistan and Pakistan, Mr. Francesco Fransoni, called on Mr. Sartaj Aziz, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs and National Security, at the Foreign Office today.
During the meeting, views were exchanged on bilateral and regional matters, including Afghanistan. The Adviser reaffirmed the importance Pakistan attached to a peaceful and stable Afghanistan. He also underscored Pakistan’s resolve to continue to extend all possible facilitation for the Afghan peace and reconciliation process. The Adviser further underlined the role of the international community in reinforcing efforts for peace and stability in Afghanistan, particularly through expanded engagement in economic development and reconstruction.
On the bilateral plane, the Adviser highlighted the excellent relations between Pakistan and Italy, marked by growing trade as well as close cooperation in the multilateral fora. He also stressed the importance of deepening investment ties to impart greater vigour to the economic partnership between the two countries.
Separately, Mr. Fransoni called on Foreign Secretary Jalil Abbas Jilani and exchanged views on matters of common interest.
