To commemorate “Kashmir Solidarity Day” a webinar was organized by the Embassy of Pakistan, Beirut which was attended by think tanks, journalists from print and electronic media and members of Pakistani community from Lebanon and Cyprus.
In his speech Ambassador Salman Athar expressed solidarity with the people of IIJOK and noted that during the last seven decades the Kashmiris living in the IIOJK have been denied of their basic human rights under illegal occupation. However, the brutal Indian forces have failed to subdue their passion for freedom and suppress the demand for the right to self-determination. The Ambassador referred to the recent data and reports of Human Rights Organization and noted that the sufferings of the Kashmiri people have increased manifold since India abrogated the special status of I1OJK through the revocation of Articles 370 and 35-A of the Indian Constitution on August 5, 2019. The Ambassador further emphasized that Jammu and Kashmir is an internationally recognized dispute and international community should take immediate steps to resolve this issue in accordance with the UN resolutions.
The other speakers included Dr. Imad Rizk, Director, Istasharia Institute of Strategic Studies; Ms. Zainab Assafar Al Mayadeen TV and Mr. Shoukat Parach, Journalist from Aaj TV Pakistan. They also highlighted the plight of innocent Kashmiris and expressed solidarity with the people of Kashmir.
Kashmir Solidarity Day is commemorated every year on 5thFebruary to express solidarity with the people of Kashmir who are striving for their right of self-determination. 75 years ago, India forcibly took over control of the State of Jammu and Kashmir without any legal justification since then Kashmiris are facing suppression and brutalities imposed by the Indian forces.
