A full house comprising local Brazilians and Pakistanis along with the Embassy officials observed the Kashmir Solidarity Day in a solemn and graceful ceremony organized by the Embassy of Pakistan in Brasilia today.

Messages by the President and the Prime Minister on Kashmir Solidarity Day were read out to the audience.

Speaking on the occasion as the Chief Guest, Ambassador Najm us Saqib stated that the United Nations had promised through multiple resolutions that the final disposition of the State of Jammu & Kashmir would be made in accordance with the will of the people expressed through democratic means of a free and impartial plebiscite. “Decades have passed by and the people of Jammu and Kashmir are still looking towards the world community and the United Nations to fulfil the promises made to them with regard to their right to self-determination.”

While saluting the bravery and courage displayed by the people of Indian Occupied Kashmir, the Ambassador reiterated Pakistan’s principled stand on Kashmir and to continue providing moral, diplomatic and political support to the people of Jammu and Kashmir in their just cause of attaining their inalienable right to self-determination. He reminded the world of Kashmir being the oldest unresolved issue on the UN agenda awaiting solution and hoped that the world nations would exert influence in providing the hapless people of Jammu and Kashmir their legitimate rights.

Defence Attache Brig. Muhammad Yousaf elaborated on the positive role of Pakistan Army in safeguarding the country’s borders and fulfilling the tasks with utmost professionalism. The other speakers expressed grave concern over the killings and other human rights violations taking place in the Indian Occupied Kashmir by the Indian Security Forces. The representative of Pakistan-Brazil Association expressed the hope that the Brazil-based Pakistanis would be actively engaged on this vital subject.

In the end, special prayers were offered for a just solution of the Kashmir dispute and a bright future for the people of Kashmir.
