The Embassy of Pakistan, Rome held its annual Mango Festival at the Chancery on 16th July 2019. The Embassy lawns were specially decorated for the occasion.

The event was inaugurated by Secretary General, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy, Ambassador Elisabetta Belloni and the Ambassador of Pakistan to Italy, H.E. Mr. Nadeem Riyaz.

In her opening remarks, the Secretary General reiterated the excellent relations between Pakistan and Italy while fondly recalling her several trips to Pakistan. She said that the presence of such a large number of people was an indication of the closeness in relations between the two countries and the work of the embassy. Ambassador Belloni praised the Pakistani mangoes which was unique in its taste and texture. The Ambassador thanked the Secretary General for her support and informed the participants about the “king of fruits”.

The guests were served freshly cut mangoes, milkshake, lassi, jams, chuttnis, pickles and ice cream. Traditional Pakistani cusine, Halwa Puri and BBQ was also served. The participants greatly admired the taste and aroma of the mangoes from Pakistan and the traditional hospitality of the embassy.

The event was attended by over 600 persons including Ambassadors, diplomats, representatives from Rome-based UN agencies, senior government functionaries, businessmen, journalists, members of the Pakistani community and the elite of the city.

The Mango festival is part of the public & economic outreach and is one of the most anticipated social events of the year by Rome.
