“Excellency,
On behalf of the government and people of Pakistan, and on my own behalf, I wish to convey our heartfelt felicitations on your electoral victory in the Presidential elections. This popular mandate is a reflection of the confidence that the people of Afghanistan repose in your bold vision and inspiring leadership.
Assuming this high office at this historic juncture is both a huge honour and a great responsibility. I pray for your success in all your endeavours. There is no doubt that your wisdom and foresight would be instrumental in guiding the Afghan nation through the present challenges, and towards realizing its immense potential.
Pakistan and Afghanistan share an abiding relationship underpinned by indissoluble bonds of faith, culture, kinship and history. Close cooperative bilateral ties serve the interests of our two peoples and the cause of peace, stability and prosperity in the region. Indeed, a deeper partnership between our two countries is a strategic imperative.
I fully share your view that Pakistan and Afghanistan should have a “special relationship.” I look forward to working closely with you for the realization of this forward-looking vision.
I also take this opportunity to extend a very cordial invitation to you to pay a visit to Pakistan, at your earliest convenience. This visit would enable us to chart a new course in our relations and proceed together on a journey of peace, progress and shared prosperity.
Please accept, Excellency, the assurances of my highest consideration.
(Muhammad Nawaz Sharif)
Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan
His Excellency,
Mr. Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai
