PAKISTAN Acting High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam, Ahmed Ali Sirohey, paid a courtesy call to Datin Paduka Tan Bee Yong, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MoFAT), who expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s cooperation with Brunei and the two countries’ existing bilateral relations.
She said that Brunei always supports Pakistan at multilateral forums and will continue to do so and discussed about the visa policy for Pakistanis that is being revisited by concerned authorities.
She also expressed willingness on the Sultanate’s part to enhance trade and assured that she will convey Pakistan’s visa concerns to higher authorities.
Ahmed Ali Sirohey, meanwhile, reiterated that Pakistan and Brunei have solid bilateral ties, which are continuing to improve, assuring full support to further strengthen ties between the two sides and also emphasised the need to translate the existing relations into stronger bilateral trade ties.
On the issue of visas, he reminded that Pakistan grants visa on arrival to Brunei nationals within 24 hours and called for reciprocal treatment.
He then presented a shield and a gift to the permanent secretary.
The acting high commissioner also met with Dr Joyce Teo Siew Yean, the Assistant Vice Chancellor (Global Affairs) of Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), along with her team members.
He said that he has approached Punjab University in Pakistan for a possible collaboration with UBD.
Dr Joyce Teo Siew Yean responded that she appreciated the effort and asked for a written intention from the university.
