The 9th meeting of the Pakistan-Russia Consultative Group on Strategic Stability was held in Moscow today (14 January 2015). The Pakistan side was headed by Additional Foreign Secretary Tasnim Aslam. Mr. Sergey A. Ryabkov, Deputy Foreign Minister, led the Russian delegation.

The talks were held in a cordial and friendly atmosphere. The two sides reviewed developments in the area of international arms control, non-proliferation and disarmament as well as strategic stability both at the regional and global levels. Pakistan and Russia also discussed relevant areas of cooperation in the bilateral domain and in the multilateral fora.

The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to substantially strengthen the consultative mechanism on strategic stability and contribute towards further promotion of a reinvigorated comprehensive and enduring partnership between Pakistan and Russia.

Both sides agreed to convene the next meeting of the Consultative Group in Islamabad at mutually convenient dates.

On the sidelines, Pakistan delegation also held meetings with Deputy Foreign Minister for United Nations and International Organizations Mr. Gennady Gatilov and President Putin’s Special Envoy on Afghanistan Ambassador Zamir Kabulov. Bilateral issues of mutual interest were discussed during these meetings.
